The McClancy varsity boys basketball team beat the #1 seed Fordham Prep 69-60 to win their first title since 1990!  The school offered free bus rides to Fordham University for many students to show up and support the team! The Crusaders started in a very dominant way, as they led 27-10 with a long buzzer beater from senior Jaiden Gaston to end the 1st quarter. Their lead remained the same in the second quarter, as they led 38-21 at half with 13 points from senior James Rosales. Fordham Prep began to rally in the 3rd quarter, as they cut the lead to 45-37 to make the game more exciting. Their rally continued in the 4th, but McClancy ended any signs of a comeback with 4 clutch free throws from Jaiden Gaston to seal the win. James Rosales (22 points, 5 rebounds), Jaiden Gaston (15 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists), and Carlos Urena all had spectacular performances in the big game! The varsity boys will play their next game against Bishop Timon or St. Jude of Buffalo in the Catholic State Semifinals! The contest will take place on March 9th at 6:00 P.M. at Fordham University! If you can’t make the game, it will be streamed on LocalLive. We wish the varsity team good luck!
