On Wednesday April 1st, 2026, four astronauts launched on their mission to the moon on board the Space Launch System, the most powerful rocket to ever carry a human crew. The crew consisted of Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission Specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hanson. Artemis II’s crew is the most diverse crew consisting of the first black man, first woman, and first Canadian to fly to the moon. The crew embarked on the first mission to the moon since 1972, 54 years ago. The mission was an attempt by NASA to test how the Orion spacecraft handled human life onboard while doing a lunar flyby. Artemis II is a pivotal point for NASA’s Artemis program as it marks the first time humans have orbited the moon since the original Apollo program. Artemis II acts as a major stepping stone towards NASA’s goal of getting humans on the moon for the Artemis IV mission. The crew successfully splashed down in the pacific ocean on April 10th, completing their mission. We hope to hear more from NASA regarding the Artemis program in the future!
