Prom season is rolling around and naturally so are the promposals. Promposals are elaborate and public invitations that occur in the months leading up to prom season. They are essentially proposals to a smaller degree, utilizing shared memories, collaborations with other friends, and creativity in order to make the invitation as unforgettable as possible.
On April 17th, 2026, after a McClancy baseball game, senior Justin Nieves was promposing to senior Valeria Gonzalez, enlisting the help of his teammates in order to execute the promposal perfectly. They were given the letters PROM ? to spell out, however, in a funny twist, they spelled out ?MORP instead, making for a hilarious blunder. Justin’s sister, Jenna Nieves, posted the “promposal gone wrong” on TikTok. The video she posted ended up going viral, amassing over 555 thousand likes on her page alone. Many other pages re-posted the video, demonstrating how much attention the promposal gained for its humorous mishap. Verified pages like ESPN, House of Highlights, Sports Illustrated, etc were all among the pages that re-posted the video, gaining insanely high levels of traction.
Yesterday, April 29th, 2026, the video hit national news, being covered on the Today Show and ABC. David Muir of ABC covered the story, having a statement from Justin himself. According to ABC, Justin hopes that this entire situation reminds people to not take situations too seriously and at the end of the day, she said yes.
This whole situation demonstrates how mistakes aren’t the end of the world and despite the promposal going completely wrong, it was a moment that everyone will certainly remember forever.
