On Saturday, October 25th, 2025, the McClancy Choir and Band came together to showcase a selection of songs in memory of Susan McDermott. Susan McDermott was a talented teacher, and mentor, with a passion to serve others. God gifted her with a love for music, singing, and painting. Through the generous support of her loving husband, Mr. Peter McDermott, the McClancy music programs and the Tyros Dramatic Society have flourished and are able to demonstrate student’s talents.
A prayer service in honor of Susan McDermott was held in McClancy’s Susan McDermott Music Center, followed by the blessing of the music center. The community gathered in prayer so God may continue to bless the space and classroom where memories are made and music is created. Afterward, a piece was played on Susan’s piano by sophomore Adriana. Mr. Peter McDermott then expressed his gratitude for keeping Susan’s memory alive and his enjoyment watching the students expressing their love for the arts. Then, The McClancy Choir sang a few songs from Aladdin Jr.’s drama production, such as “Friend Like Me”, and other hits from Bob Marley such as “Three Little Birds”, and other popular songs like “I Can See Clearly Now” by Johnny Nash and “Banana Boat Song” by Harry Belafonte. The McClancy Band then performed Mr. Melito’s favorites, “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey, “Johnny B Goode” by Chuck Berry, and other great hits.
After all, what mattered most was coming together, cheering for each other, and savoring the moment. Students are given the opportunity to use the gifts God gave them and express gratitude to Mr. Peter McDermott for his support that encourages the students to continue growing in their talents. Lastly, a ginormous thank you for the wonderful McClancy arts teachers, Mrs. Lozada, Mr. Savoca, Mr. Mrakovcic, and the Tyros’ Music Director, Mr. O’Neil, for being the students’ biggest supporters and mentors.
