In 2025, Broadway sees two of the biggest comebacks by Leslie Odom Jr and Tom Felton’s reprisal of roles. Odom will be returning to the stage of “Hamilton,” as Aaron Burr, a role which he had played ten years prior. Felton, however, will be making his Broadway debut with a role he had portrayed on screen only, that is, Draco Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” film franchise.
Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr. first took on the role of Aaron Burr during the musical’s workshop productions in 2014. He continued the role in 2015, while the show was off-Broadway at the Public Theater, and later that same year, once the show was on Broadway at the Richard Rogers Theatre, where it still is today. His final bow as Burr was originally July 16, 2016. Then, in 2025, as part of the musical’s year anniversary celebration, Odom announced he would be returning to the role, beginning September 9, 2025 until November 26, 2025. This limited twelve-week engagement caused ticket prices to skyrocket, with one ticket costing more than $1000. Despite this, fans are all anticipating his return, excited they have the chance to see him up close on stage after the recording of “Hamilton” was added to Disney+ in 2020. I, for one, cannot afford to see him live, but for those who got the opportunity, I hope you enjoyed being in the room where it happened!
Tom Felton is also reprising a role, but is doing it a little differently. His character, Draco Malfoy, is going from the film screen to the Broadway stage. Felton had initially auditioned for the role of Harry Potter and Ron Weasley, but was cast as Draco in 1999 and continued with the role until 2011, when the last film of the franchise, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two” was released. Even though the filming was over, he continued to have a deep love for that universe and would be frequently seen wearing Slytherin merchandise, his character’s house from the franchise on Instagram. The opportunity to play Draco in the “Cursed Child,” which takes place 19 years after the last film, was one he knew he could not pass up. It is also a full circle moment for him because he is currently 26, the same age as Jason Issacs, who played his on-screen father Lucius Malfoy was while filming the earlier movies. And now, he also gets to play the role of the father, the one who will hear about this. His run is from November 11, 2025 until May 10th, 2026.
