The McClancy Varsity Boys track team recently won the City Championship for the first time since 2019! I spoke with Coach Pat Civitano (Coach Civ) about the victory, asking him what it meant to him and the team to celebrate a great season!
How did it feel to watch the Varsity Boys win the City Championship?
“It felt great to watch the boy’s win! This is our first championship win since 2019. A lot of them have been working hard since August and it was nice to see that hard work pay off. The team was led by juniors Christopher Deck, Anthony Carlino and freshman Christopher DeCaterina. Anthony was a newcomer to the team only starting in October. If the season were to end today, I would have to say Anthony is our MVP stepping up as the new guy in a pressure situation.”
Did you give the boys any advice before their championship meet?
“I always tell the teams to run hard and run with their heart to leave everything out there. Especially in a championship meet.”
Do you have a favorite memory from this season?
“Coming together after the win celebrating has been my favorite.”
Overall, it was an excellent season for the McClancy track program, as the freshmen team finished in 3rd place! Congrats to the varsity and freshmen boys, as they had massive accomplishments this year!
