On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, McClancy held its annual event that highlights a rivalry between the senior class and the faculty: the Senior vs. Faculty Volleyball Game. With school ending early at 1:40 PM, students were quick to flood the gymnasium bleachers and see who would win the competitive 2024-2025 match.
As seniors finished a period earlier, those participating in the game were already seen in the gym, setting up and practicing their volleyball skills. The seniors formed groups of around six players and, during the game, would rotate roughly every three minutes. Once a team reached 25 points in the set, they would begin a new one. The best out of three wins.
Seniors were especially riled up due to the fact that the faculty remained undefeated in McClancy’s history. They hoped their class of 2025 would be the one to bring down this streak.
As the first set began, it was a rough start for the seniors. The faculty—having players such as Ms. Russo, Mr. Sylvester, Mr. Sanabria, and Mr. McNally, to name a few—quickly dominated the students. However, the seniors were able to catch up, and it seemed it would be a close game. Unfortunately, the faculty returned to their dominance and overtook the seniors, winning the game in two sets.
Events like the Senior vs. Faculty games are exciting moments for students at McClancy to express school spirit. For seniors especially, it is a special moment to get away from the stress of senior year and create heartfelt memories with their graduating class and the teachers they’ve known during their time at McClancy. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter which side wins; the memories are valuable enough (but hopefully the faculty will lose someday).
