This past Tuesday, March 21, 2023, our varsity softball team played a scrimmage against Scholars’ Academy. The game ended in a tie 3-3, but our girls’ runs on the field were more than memorable. The crowd knew it would be a good one when Vivian Natividad ‘26 scored a home run as the game’s first hit. She blasted through the bases after being the first at-bat in the bottom of the 1st inning. Her hit was eventually followed up by an equally impressive hit by Taylor Roth ‘25 in the bottom of the second inning. With members of the administration in attendance, she made a hit no one will forget. Mr. Medlin, a chairman for the McClancy board of directors and class of 1970, said the hit was “gone right off the bat.” Our principal himself even commented calling it the “best hit on the new field.” But the game wasn’t over yet. Kamryn Walls ‘24 hit a triple in the bottom of the 4th inning followed by Paige Staley ‘24’s single, allowing Kamryn to score that final run, tieing the game. And on top of everything, pitchers Paige Staley ‘24 and Vivian Natividad ‘26 combined for 16 strikeouts. Though the girls didn’t come out with a win, they’re still excited and prepared to dominate this year’s season.
